CALLING ALL ASTRONOMERS!
The Planetarium Exhibit from the Carnegie Science Center came to NSIS on Friday, November 10. The students viewed constellations, the moon, planets, and many other astronomy related objects. It was a fun-filled science class that allowed us to go to "infinity and beyond."

Soda-Straw Rocket Lab
Modern rocket design began near the beginning of the 20th century. While much has been learned and rockets have grown larger and more powerful, rocket designs are still improving. Keeping this in mind, the students on Team Intrepid created soda-straw rockets. The first rocket was a flat-nosed rocket, followed by a pointed-nosed rocket, and finally a tip that they created on their own. This was the perfect opportunity for students to practice the engineering design process. The rockets were launched by blowing into a straw. The distance traveled was measured in cm and logged on a data sheet. Students then used the website meta-chart.com to create graphs of their data. We had a BLAST!!

Layers of the Atmosphere
Making predictions about what happens in each layer of the Earth's
atmosphere is quite a challenge! From the troposphere to the exosphere,
there's a great deal to learn about Earth's amazing atmosphere!
There will be a test on the layers of Earth's atmosphere on Tueday, Oct 3.

DO YOU SEE WHAT I SEE?
How are your observation skills? Ms. Douglas challenged the students on Team Intrepid to study items in a box for two minutes, and then identify all of the items they could remember by writing them on a lab sheet. Students worked independently and then in small groups to create their lists. In conclusion, the students were able to identify all 20 objects and realized that working as part of a group helped them accomplish a difficult task. Keep those observation skills sharp! Observe the slide show below to see if you are in the pictures!
